Fort Davis, TX is one of the special places in my heart. As a kid, I had the opportunity to visit my cousins in (and around) Fort Davis and fell in love with the people and the area.
Fort Davis is best known for the Fort Davis National Historic Site. This key military fort was established in 1854 to protect emigrants, freighters, mail coaches and travelers on the San Antonio-El Paso Road. It is one of the best preserved frontier forts in the American southwest. The fort was established on the eastern side of the Davis Mountains, in a box canyon near Limpia Creek, where wood, water and grass is plentiful.
In the 1930’s the Civilian Conservation Corps built the Indian Lodge, a beautiful pueblo-style adobe hotel just outside of Fort Davis in the Davis Mountains State Park. The State Park offers over 9 miles of hiking trails and this image was taken from the top of one of the mountains, looking down at the beautiful Indian Lodge with Blue Mountain in the distance.
Allison Constantino is an Orlando, Florida, area artist who loves Nature. She loves the ocean and is an avid supporter of cleaning up our oceans from plastic debris and is part of the Surfrider Foundation’s “Rise Above Plastics” initiative.
