About Allison Constantino

Allison Constantino About Allison Constantino

Allison has been painting her entire life!

Allison was the one that, in grade school, when the teacher asked, 'Who wants to draw a turkey on the blackboard for Thanksgiving?' always raised her hand.

In high school, she was called to the principal's office only to find out the logo she submitted to the school was chosen as her high school's logo. 'I'll never forget that day! Sitting in the principal's office, waiting to see him. What a relief to know I was there for a 'good' reason! They used my logo for a long time!'

She had 'formal' art training from two nationally recognized artists while she was still in high school. They jump-started her art career. 'Looking back on being in high school, I'm surprised I was able to stand still long enough to learn anything from these exceptionally talented artists! They must have had the patience of Job with me. Somehow what they were trying to teach me 'stuck' and I continued merrily on my way. I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Interior Design from the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado.'

Allison's work is collected locally and nationally. She was fortunate to receive a private commission for super model Tyra Banks.

Originally from Texas, Allison currently lives in Winter Springs, FL.

Allison grew up enjoying vacations on 'the family ranch' in west Texas. 'I love to ride horses! I really enjoy the experience of riding out in the open and Texas has lots of open spaces! I love hiking, too. Lots of mountains in west Texas to conquer!'

Allison left Texas to attend college in Colorado, where she had the challenge of 'real' mountains to climb. 'When I was a junior in college, my friend and I, on a whim, decided to ride our bicycles to the top of Flagstaff mountain, just above the University of Colorado campus. A slow day on campus, as you might guess. Anyway, so we get to the top of the mountain, taking us much longer to get there than planned, only to realize it was getting dark! So, we both came down the mountain, very, very fast, in the dark! Probably not my best bicycling decision!'

In Florida, she rides her bicycle instead of a horse. 'I ride 10 miles a day for my mental and physical health. It's a great way to start out every day and living in Florida I hardly miss a day due to inclement weather! I still miss riding horses, though! Once a Texas girl, always a Texas girl!'

Allison loves to travel and has been to: Alaska, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, Oahu, Kauai, Maui, Tahiti, Bora-Bora, Moorea, Raiatea, France, England, Scotland, Greece, Crete, Santorini, France, Italy, Egypt, Turkey and Israel.

Her many travels have influenced her art. She loves to visit and paint different locations.

Allison also enjoys watching films from the 1940's. She is intrigued with the 'film noir' genre and recently has developed a 'film noir' series of images.

'Painting negative spaces are a real challenge for me, because it's fun painting 'negative spaces,' starting out with a dark space and adding in light spaces to create the painting. I love the result. It's fun to paint. A challenge for me!'

A friend of mine came to me one day, knowing I'm an artist and asked me, 'Allison, I have this favorite rooster who roosts on my window. I want you to paint him for me.' I say, 'Er, well, I've never painted a bird before. I'm more of a nature gal. You know, plants, trees, those kind of things. However, if you have no vested interest in how this rooster might end up looking, I'm up for it if you are.'

'As it turns out, I'm actually really good at drawing birds! My friend was delighted with 'Rudy, the Rooster.' No one was more surprised than I was! I attended an Audubon event one day and met up with 'Francis,' an injured eagle who was Audubon's ambassador. Francis was found with an injured wing and unable to fly and became their ambassador. I was amazed with Francis and decided to try to paint him. I sold the first painting I created of Francis. I liked painting him so much, I painted my second Francis image. He's great fun to paint and what an inspiring testament to Audubon!'

Allison loves to read. One of her favorite authors is Alexander McCall Smith. He is an author and professor with roots in Scotland and Botswana. 'I absolutely love reading any of Alexander's books! My favorite is his series, 'The Number One Ladies Detective Agency.' He set the series in Botswana. The book was the basis of a short-lived HBO TV series of the same name, actually filmed in Botswana. I loved watching the series and seeing Botswana. It was amazing to see the location shots and I was hooked on the images. One day it would be wonderful to see Botswana in person!'

Allison hopes her nature and other images will make you as happy looking at them as she is happy creating them. 'Being an artist changes the way you go through your day and live your life. I'll stop cold in my tracks on my daily bicycle ride to see shadows play off trees or sunlight glowing behind a tree limb. It's the little things that bring me such pleasure. It is also my 'challenge' as an artist to 'capture' that moment and that feeling and share it with you!'
