Description
"Rainy Days and Sundays" is a poem I wrote:
The rain hits the downspout in a constant chatter.
Occasional drips off the roof hit the cement porch.
A pleasing drone of "white noise" rain splashes lively on the pond.
The sun bleached dry winter landscape takes a deep breath as the rain approaches, then a sigh as the rain fills every crack and crevice with the life force of water.
The rain is coming straight down, with little motion.
The wind chimes on the porch wait silently to announce the backside of the front that brings the wind. All there is now is silence.
The rain muffles even the traffic going by on the street. Even the cars seem gentler as they go slower, the tires softly splashing the puddles on the side of the road.
My porch in the rain is soothing, a place to come to soothe your inner spirit.
Even the landscape is softer. No harsh shadows being cast by the sun. Only one color prevails today, the color of softness.
It feels like a blanket for your spirit. You can wrap it all around you and the world disappears leaving only your thoughts.
This is a watercolor kind of day. Everything is mixed and blended with water.
Soft greens, mellow yellows, creamy tans; no harsh colors or contrasts in sight.
The colors I'd choose to create this landscape palette I'd describe as "soothing."
In a room or in a painting it would be a place to hide away, a respite from the world, a true sanctuary.
I'm in a meeting now. This is where my mind wanders to when I'm in a high tension meeting. My mind recognizes the need to de-stress even if my physical body can't escape.
Rain purifies and cleanses the landscape and our spirits.
While still physically trapped in my meeting, I stare out the window and visualize myself outside in the rain, like Gene Kelly, stomping both feet in the puddles of water and jumping for joy. The rain only adds to my exhilaration. My spirit has been set free and I have no cares.
I swing around the lamppost. I'm soaked, but I don't care.
My mind abruptly comes back to the present moment. I must stay focused on the proceedings at hand.
I glance beyond the person at the end of the table, through the window and see a cardinal on the branch of a tree dripping with rain.
Oh, but my spirit could take flight with the cardinal!
I nod my head as if my mind had been present during the entire conversation.
