Sea turtles, like many sea creatures are under attack by man made materials. In the case of the sea turtle, the enemy is single-use merchant plastic bags. Sea turtles mistakenly ingest the plastic bags thinking they are jellyfish (their primary food source). When they eat the plastic bags, the plastics get trapped in their stomachs, preventing them from properly swallowing, and they die. Over 100 million marine animals are killed each year due to plastic debris in the ocean. The average American family will take home approximately 1500 sing-use plastic bags every year. More than 85% of the bags are disposed of improperly. To learn more about what you can do to save a turtle, visit www.helpthebeach.com.
